Career Development Tip #11 - "Success is not forever and failure is not fatal" Don Shula

Career Development Tip #11 - "Success is not forever and failure is not fatal" Don Shula:
In our firm we interview dozens of people a day, hundreds a week and thousands a month.  We always ask people about their successes and they are more than happy to tell us about them.  We also ask about their failures and what they learned from those failures.  It intrigues me how many people are gun shy about their failures, but isn't that how we really learn the important lessons?  If you learn how to talk about these learning experiences in a meaningful way, people will respect you for the hard working human you are.  They will be able to relate to you better because they too have failed at something at one point or another.  A mentor of mine once said if you don't fail from time to time you aren't trying hard enough.  You can take that a step further by learning to talk about those failures and how you parlayed that learning experience into success.  By being human and letting others learn from your human experience you become a respected source for wisdom, and that is a tip that will take you far.
